LABRADOR SUBURB INFORMATION
Labrador has the best of both worlds, a quiet residential suburb but with trendy cafes and restaurants overlooking the scenic Broadwater. Developments along Marine Parade such as the Aqua building have helped the suburb to evolve into a trendy area known for its waterfront dining. The suburb borders the Broadwater with close proximity to the CBD and is central to everything. The foreshore offers pleasant and peaceful walks for the health conscious. The famous Grand Hotel of yesteryear lives on through the new multi storied high rise of the same name. Each year the Gold Coast Marathon, which attracts thousands of keen runners, passes through Labrador along Marine Parade.
Over the past 10 years Labrador has changed significantly with urban renewal paving the way for renewed interest in the suburb. Many of the older units and housing are being renovated or replaced by huge accommodation developments or rental apartments. This has caused rents as well as property prices to increase.
Labrador has no shortage of shopping – local shops and large supermarkets are within walking distance or a short drive. Aldi supermarket is located in the centre of Labrador and is handy for locals. Chirn Park, on the outer edges of the suburb, has cafes and hairdressers as well as some small specialty stores. Larger shopping centres are easily accessible with Harbour Town Shopping Centre in Biggera Waters and Australia Fair Shopping Centre in Southport five minutes away.
Primary: Labrador, Southport. Secondary: Southport, Coombabah. Private Schools: A.B. Paterson, St Hilda’s (all girls), TSS (all boys).
Villa La Salle Retirement Village, 32 Bauer St, Southport
There are numerous medical centres scattered around the suburb and surrounding suburbs. The Gold Coast Hospital and Allamanda Private Hospital are a short distance away in Southport.
Regular bus services link the suburb with Southport, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach. Helensvale train station is nearby for commuters and is accessible by bus.
From parks to the Broadwater, Labrador is a haven for those who love the outdoors. Aquatic sports are a drawcard for the area and are popular not only for those participating, but also for tourists and locals who enjoy being spectators. Wind surfing and parasailing are popular activities on the Broadwater. Charis Seafoods, located on the Broadwater across the road from the Grand Hotel, has always drawn crowds witnessing the daily feeding of the pelicans. Families with small children crowd to the Broadwater for fun in the sun and to play in shallow still waters. Along the Broadwater is always a good place to drop a line and while away the hours fishing for fun and relaxation.
