What is curb appeal and why is it important?

Curb appeal will give potential buyers a first impression of the home before they even step inside. The look of your façade can affect the degree to which it appeals to those buyers, and gives them an idea of what to expect on the other side of the front door.

First impressions last, so improving the outside of your property is important. Why not start with your lawn. In Queensland it’s hard to keep your lawn looking perfect all year round, from the hot summer sun to months without rain, there is a chance your lawns may look a little drab from time to time. To bring your lawns back to life, try using some good quality lawn fertilisers and lawn conditioners. Check with your local nursery or hardware store for which product will best suit your lawn.

The biggest ‘facelift’ for your exterior is paint. A lick of fresh paint can go a long way, instantly refreshing the look of your home. You may not need to paint your entire façade – by just touching up a few features (gutters, window frames, the front door) you will make a huge impact. Research current paint colour trends and consider what will appeal to most buyers.

If you have a driveway or footpath, it’s important to fix up any cracks, chips or holes that may be an issue. You can also pressure clean the area to give it a newer feel. Ensure any weeds or overgrowth are tended to, and consider planting some new shrubs or flowers to create a nice aesthetic look to break up the space.

Little things go a long way when it comes to a home’s staging, and the façade is no different. If you don’t want to spend the big bucks, or simply don’t have the time to make changes, try some simple things that will still make an impact on your exterior to potential buyers. Ensure fittings and fixtures are in working order, weeds are cleared, and rubbish is removed.
